Philippians 2 Attitude

This week has been all about Philippians 2.

Don't ask me why, but every time I turn around...there it is.

In my personal reading, I read through it not too long ago...then it was part of our study on Wednesday with the high schoolers...and then Charlie Bertison used in earlier tonight (Thursday) with the college group.

It must be something I really need to hear.

Starting in verse 3, my NIV says,
"(vs.3) Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humily consider others better than yourselves. (vs.4) Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. (vs.5) Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus."

When I've taught this, I've always stressed, "Don't think less of yourself...just think of yourself less."

Earlier tonight, Charlie talked about how listening is such a gift to another person and helps us to look to their interests. It keeps us humble, builds trust in the relationship, and builds health in us.

((Side note: Bryant read tonight from the version he used (New Century Version) and I love verse 5..."In your lives you must think and act like Christ Jesus." I like how it goes much further than just "our attitude"...the truth is that Jesus--his attitude, his way, his compassion, his love, his teaching methods, his Father--should consume our whole life.))

If you have a Bible (and if you don't, I'll give you one), make sure these verses are marked! Underline, highlight, circle, and star...whatever it takes to draw your attention back to this amazing truth. Go ahead and include verses 3-11. They are all awesome. I know I'll be adding a few more underlines after this week!
